This 19th-century art movement was born in France. The impressionist preferred to leave the studio and went outside to paint "en plein air" (out in the fresh air).
Post-Impressionism
Without Impressionism, there wouldn't be Post-Impressionism of course. The term features many different artistic expressions from the end of the 19th century with a highly subjective approach to art.
Cubism
Cubism is mainly connected to the works of two artists, Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. This modern art movement made a huge change in how things could be represented on canvas.
Fauvism
The Fauvists (meaning wild beasts) were a group of French painters. They used beautiful vivid and non-naturalistic colors in their portraits and landscapes.
Expressionism
German Expressionism was an early 20th-century movement organized in two groups: The Bridge led by Kirchner and The Blue Rider led by Kandinsky.
Futurism
Futurism was an Italian art movement born in 1909. It celebrated the new technologies of the modern world.
